Stay with one post, bandit...it's easier to follow that way.<br />As for a guess, I hope someone can help, because I find NO AE code thru 2002, and there hasn't been a 120 built for several years.<br /><br />EDIT: the only "AE" I can find is Alaskan built, Electric start. But nothing else matches up for year-code.

just checked it again hood says 120 model number says 120 welch plug gives sn its a v4 on a 1990 bubble bee guessing buy look late 80 early 90d's motor where else can i look on the motor to get model number j120tlaem sn go2335697 thanks

sounds good to me trailer is 89 boat is 90 motor 89 works for me but why does my papers say a89 is ce not ae hmmmm thanks guys

AE instead of CE in the model number means it was a special model, most of the time it meant a different color than normal outboards of that year. I don't have my books handy to double check.

bandit:<br />Boat/motor combo may have been a factory setup - it happens, can cause motor not to fit normal code.

I dug out an old 2000 book and the "AE" is listed as a 1989...correct as above mentioned.

Seahorse is correct, The "A" stands for "alternate color". If yours is a Johnson and hasnt been repainted, it should be charcoal instead of white.<br /><br />Good luck!
