I have a 1960 Larson Playboy Runabout that I am installing a 1988 Force 35hp outboard on. I will be replacing the old steering wheel and cable/pulley assembly with a single Teleflex cable assembly. My motor has a thru hole steering design and came with the attching "swing" arm to attach to the cable. My problem is that when the motor is centered on the transom and everything is connected, the "swing" arm does not have enough travel when turning to the right without hitting the splashwell. My question is do I need to make a side hole in the splashwell to accomodate the "swing" arm or should I get a smaller swing arm. I feel that a shorter swing arm will not give me enough travel from side to side. What are your thoughts. dc

Time for a hole saw

They used to make an adapter kit that would run your cable under the motor and then have a drag link back to the stearing hookup. I have not seen one in a few years.

To finish the thread.......I had to drill new holes in the splashwell to align the cable with the engine tilt tube and to create the clearance needed for the swing arm. Works great.
