Problem with starter I guess

Here it is a short story :

One month ago one of the water hose come out from the pump even I immediately realize turning off the engine there was a considerable amount of water on the bilge compartment

2 Days later boat starter with not problem but 20 days later when you turn the key starter engine make a sound , not like a click but more like trying to turn . Sorry I don't know how to explain the sound .

I hope is only the starter ,

Engine is a 2000 Volvo Penta 4.3 ... I try to short the solenoid but I got a Spark when short the two mayors terminals and nothing on the other terminals ...

BTW ... I try to remove the bolts but with not luck ...

Any Idea , suggestion will be greatly appreciate

You mean the starter bolts? As in: They are too tight to loosen? Or, as in: You cannot access them?

You might want to make sure you can manually turn the engine over. Remove the spark plugs and see if the engine turns over by hand.

If the starter was immersed - especially in the salt water of Miami, then the chances are good your starter is toast.

Ok.... Now I can sleep ...

I fix the problem , It seems to be just the negative got corrosion from the salt water . after turn the key 2 or 3 time I'd notice the negative cable was very hot almost melted I did an exhaustive clean up of all terminals , grease all them and now it works .

Fishermark . I dont think it was submerged on the water ... I got a considerable amount of water on the bilge compartment but because I didn't run the boat instead I did tow it , I don't think it gets to the starter ,,, However some corrosion is showing around .

I guess the next step is to get a salt away and some corrosion protector and spray every spot ...
