Problem with Escort trailer and tongue jack

I just bought a Seasense jack for my escort which had a non-swivel jack that was junk. I can now see why that was a non swivel as it seems there is not enough frame for the swivel to work. I would have to mount it so when it's in the tow position the jack is even with the end of the hitch coupler. Maybe this doesn't hurt, but I have never seen any jack that close to the hitch. The total length of the jack is 29.5 inches. Maybe there is a smaller jack out there, but don't really want to get a cheapie either. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Escort trailers were not overly friendly or accepting to alterations. Can I assume that the trailer does not have a lot of tongue weight?

If this is the case, something like this would work for you.

Otherwise, the only other thing I would suggest wqould be one of these.

You weld the mounting tube to the trailer and then you would have an option of having another fabricated and welded in a location that is out of the way or you could just put it in the back of the truck when not in use.

Neither are probably the answer you were hoping for, but I am not so sure that I would have a jack any where near my hitch or tongue for that matter. Get in a tight spot and you can imagine what would happen with a sharp turn the wrong direction.

Can you mount the jack further back, behind the winch post, under the bow of the boat?

Might be a little harder to get to, but how often do you need to crank it up?

I've had a few like that, I installed a longer tongue on two of mine, and replaced the on jack with the same style. You could put the jack off on one of the side members of the frame but it won't be very balanced.

You do want a swing away jack to be far enough from the ball and tow vehicle that it don't bind in tight turns. If there's not enough room, either make room by extending the tongue or use a fixed type jack.

Hey thanks to all of you for your suggestions.....all were good! I managed to find a short 800 lb. (22") swing away from Bass Pro that gives me plenty of distance from the ball. Thanks again for all your suggestions!
