problem with coil on stator 95 200 johnson

recently I have had a problem with a single coil on my stator its the coil that has the orange /orange blk wire going to the powerpack recently it got toasted i beleve this is pART OF THE QUIKSTART OR SLOWMODE GOING TO THE POWER PCK. my question what would cause it to fry I have replaced it and after running the engine it seems to be getting warm as it's beginning to brown already could i have a short somewhere if so what should i be looking for

Often the condition is caused by a bad rectifier so that both units are frequently replaced at the same time.

CDI publishes a download Troubleshooting Guide which covers most conditions. It is fairly large so be patient.

what actually does the coil with the orange to orange blk wire do on the ,stator i replace the pack and it's now running. the regulator is charging as per my Fluke , but the tach output is gone .it was an used oem regulator plan on replacing it this weekend to see if this helps
