Alpha 1Gen II trim on 2001 Mercruiser 5.7L
Trim is in up position now, as it has been all winter. Neither up or down trim works, with no click from either solenoid. Solenoids are dark at tip but shiny down the posts.
Here's what I have done and tested so far:
1. Removed each terminal wire on the solenoids one by one, cleaned the posts and the connected wire with sandpaper, then reconnected.
2. Tested 110 amp fuse with meter. Voltage both to the fuse and when trim switch is engage on the other side of fuse OK. Removed 110 amp fuse and tested with Ohm meter. Reading is 0 to 1, which I understand means the fuse is likely OK.
3. Jumped both posts on up and down solenoids, but did not encounter spark as expected. Would have expected to be able to arc the posts if the root cause of the problem is bad solenoids.
4. Ran 10 gauge jumper wire from 12+ to green wire with no activity.
5. Removed wiring harness assembly and made sure it did not appear corroded and is connected securely.
6. 20 amp fuse appears OK.
The fact that I got no sparks or action of any kind when jumping solenoid posts is an indicator no power is getting to solenoid, right?
What else am I missing or should try?
Thanks!
