I've been working on a F 9.9 MH 4 stroke engine. Model # OR606670, serial number IF10201EK. I don'r work on many engines anymore but a friend wanted me to take a look at his motor. Like most problems with outboard engines most are fuel related. He had water in the tank so I took the carb apart and ordered the parts needed to make the repair. I had all the parts in a box on my toolbox and somehow someone was doing some cleaning up and threw the box of parts in the trash and they got burned up with the rest of the trash.
After getting over the shock, I started looking for a replacement and as fate would have it the carb is NLA. I went to e-bay to see what I could find there, and no used ones were on their but I did find a Chinese knock off so I decided to try one to see what would happen. Well, it came and it really didn't look all that bad, so I went to put it on the engine and the first thing I noticed this one didn't have the vent tube on the top plate nor the vent tube on the bottom for the fuel primer. I had the thing almost on before I found this and decided to just give it a try. I got it mounted with the control levers hooked up and after a little adjusting it started and ran fairly well. Idled well and took fuel like it should. Now, I'm running it in a small barrel so I really can't see how well it responds to full throttle under a load, but it idles ok.
After some research I found that the electric start models have an electrically operated primer on them, and they don't have the vent on the top cap or the tube on the bottom for that stupid push to prime button like the MH models do.
My question is does anyone know what problems might pop up running it like it is now. I know I'm going to lose big time on this, but I really don't want to give it back to him and something serious happens.
