Re: problem with 75hp suzuki

Hi,
I assume You use a Suzuki "NA12S" remote control unit.
The Ignition switch - It has dual functions:
1) Ignition switch (start)= turn it clockwise.
2) Choke switch = press in the switch (for a short time at the same time you turn the switch).
Then the engine get a quick choke and should start easier when the engine is cold/not been used for a while.

Also make sure You have squeezed the gasbulb on the fuel line (from gas tank to engine) so it is firm and therefore gas has reached the engine/carburators (hopefully).

Check so the tank went is opened so the tank get air.

Use fresh gas.

Don't forget to use fresh oil in the oiltank inside the cowling (for automatic mixing of oil in the gas). There is biological degraded 2-stroke oil like Castrol Biolube 100 if you prefer that).

Try above and come back if it does not work.

Also, unless it is changed recently, it can be wise to change to new gearcase oil (You drain and fill in lower hole, in lower unit, and "went" with went screw so the old oil gets out - if you fill in new oil fill until it comes out of the upper went hole, usually about 0,5 liter oil).

New sparkplugs with correct gap can also be a good thing, if it was long time ago it was changed.

And last, watch out for old impeller (water pump wheel) since it is made of rubber and will not last forever. If work/broke or some blade comes loose it can overheat your engine.

/Bo

Hi again,
You can also raise the idle rpm when You start the engine in neutral gear by raising the lever (up). Then when engine has started you can gradually lower this lever until it is down and engine runs atb normal operating temp.

/Bo

thanks for the information Bo,
i haven't messed with it much but a new water pump kit and complete tune up are in the works the boat hasn't been in the water for about 2 years
------------
Hi,
That is good.

i'm trying to figure out if i have a problem with the lower unit when i tried to crank it the control unit was in neutral position but the propeller was turning as i was trying to crank it,i don't know if it could be a cable out of whack or what
---------------
It is just an adjustment thing of the gear cable.
There are two control cables going from remote control to engine:
- One is for throttle (you do not need to do anytning about that cable).
- One is for the gear (forward-neutral-reverse) control.

Under the engine cowl you se the two control cables coming in on the right side of the engine, seen from behind. The rod connected to the gear mechanism (coming from below the rigg) is for forward-neutral-reverse and you just adjust the rod length with turning the end-connector (shorter or longer). You can actually by hand move the gear lever there to feel the neutral position, as you turn the propeller at the same time, propeller will spinn easily in neutral as you will notice. Then just adjust the rod length so the lever it is in that position when rod is fastened on the lever.
It is very easy once you have started working with the adjustment, belive me - I have adjusted this myself on my DT65 (I installed new control cables this spring).

/Bo
