We just bought a used 225 optimax with good compression. We put it on a 23 mako and the first time out it ran beautiful up to 5300 rpm for approximately one minute then it started to sputter or misses like it was starving for gas. After slowing down to 2800 rpm it runs fine but as you try to accelerate it sputters again. We drained a little water out of the boat gas filter and changed the 2 motor gas filters but no change, it still runs great for about a minute then it starts to miss and sputter again. Any ideas?

Sounds like fuel or at least fuel delivery problem.

I have the same problem with my 2000 200hp optimax. If I figure it out I will post. Low rpms good high rpms for any length-runs out of gas.
