I have had a problem starting the above engine- not starting at all at the moment. Turns over well, compression good, spark is present. Checked spark plugs after trying to start- they are soaked with fuel. Small leak noted at primer valve. Could a faulty primer valve/ primer solenoid cause a non start ?

Flywheel key checked recently, but I will check again. The primer valve is in the correct running position.

You are raising fast idle lever ?-----Pushing key in WHILE cranking it over ?----Load test battery ( even if new ) and take starter apart for inspection.----Steps to take and no money spent.

I had one of these for a while, and had a terrible time with flooding on cold starts at first. I learned to never choke for more than a 3 count at a time. What worked best for me was squeezing the primer bulb till firm, go to console, push the ign. key in for a 3 count, then attempt to start - which generally happened right away.

When that valve is open, fuel just roars into the intake.....

No the holes in the nipples are very small.------And fuel only flows if there is fuel pressure ( motor cranking ) to this simple valve.----Impossible to flood these motors with the wonderful primer valve.

We're victims of our experience right? If the primer bulb is squeezed to firm, the fuel system has plenty of pressure to squirt fuel when that valve is opened.

Thanks for your replies. Racerone, I still haven't checked the flywheel key this time around. Maybe that's the most fundamental check. Must get hold of a flywheel puller , again. Update; tried starting when spraying in easy start. Some success, fired up shortly, a few times, but I noticed a misfire, not every time. Would not fire up on fuel.

Maybe time for a fresh set of plugs?

The primer hose and orifice in the nipple are too small to allow fuel to " roar " into this motor.---------Good luck with this motor.

Took off the flywheel, and yes, the key was sheared. Replaced with a factory key, replaced the flywheel, tightened the nut as tight as I could. I'll try and start up the engine tomorrow.

Flywheel and crank tapers need to be clean and dry.----Must match properly.------Torque the nut.----Post # 2 was not far off I guess.
