I rebuilt the carbs this weekend on my 1990 Johnson 100GT outboard. Everything went fine and got it back together without ANY problems "which is a first in my book!" I started the motor and all seemed right with the world. BUT after I shut the engine down I squeezed the primer ball a few times and noticed fuel was dripping under the carbs, I really couldnt tell were it was coming from so I once again dissassembled everything so that I could get a better look. Anyhow I finally pulled the Top Carb off and it turns out that my problem is that the gasket between the float bowl and the carb body was LOOSE. All of the screws were tight but you could still push the gasket and see that it was moving and not sealing. The Float bowl is plastic and it seems like the back edge is cupped and does not seal properly. I put it back together and tightened the rear edge were the leak was coming and then tightened the front screws and it seems to have sealed but it still scares me a little. Is there a problem with these plastic float bowls warping? Just wondering if I should order new ones to avoid future problems in case it starts leaking down the road. Anyone have similar problems with this in the past?
