I'm trying to get the 8 bolts out that hold the powerhead onto to the gearcase. Got 4 of em out but the the other 4 aint goin nowhere, heads rounded and rusty. Not been out in 19 years i think. Gonna try and drill the heads off then remove the remainder when the powerheads on the bench. Before I do that, anyone got any other suggestions? Motor is 1985 rude 60 twin, BE60TLCO I read an earlier thread where this guy had thought of putting stainless studs back in and nyloc nuts instead of bolts. I think thats a good idea and am gonna do that when it comes to reassembly.

thanks
chris

Harsh language Chris....and lots of it. Being in the UK, I would venture to say the engine has seen some salt? During reassembly, coat the bolts with a gasket sealing compound. This will help prevent future corrosion.

The studs sound like a good idea. Don't know why it wouldn't work. It will also help to chase all threaded holes out with a tap. Will make reassembly a lot easier.

I would try to get a bit of heat on them first.
If they do shear off flush you can carefully drill them out until there's just the thread left, you'll need a drill press to do this accurately, then pick out the remainder with a sharp implement.
