Problem finding information

[TMG76]

I just picked up 2 motors for the price of 1. 1980 115 inline 6 with a jet ser # 5923006, and a 1979 115 inline 6 ser # 5241787. The '80 for sure needs a rebuild as she only has 115-120psi on cyl #1-4, #5 is 95psi and #6 is a big fat 0...no problem finding parts for it. But for the life of me cant find any information on the '79 model. when I put the serial number in, (marineengine and merc parts exp) it says serial number not found. Any insite as to why this might be? The '80 serial number is on the transom bracket, and the '79 its on the front of the steering bar. Am I missing somethin here?

The only issue with the '79 IL6 was the changeover from distributor ign to ADI ign. Which do you have?

My 79 has the distributor ign. The guy I got em from wasn't too outboard savvy, and it the 79 for a parts motor, particularly the powerhead. When I told him the powerheads weren't compatable without changing over the ign sys is when he decided to lemme have em for next to nothin
