Not too much more to tell. I finally fixed my tach and it reads about 1100; engine sounds higher than normal too. I wasn't sure if perhaps the tach is reading a little off but the fact that the motor trolls at about 3.5 mph when it used to be 2.5 would suggest the idle is high. Engine doesn't sound 'unbalanced' however. Is it possible to turn down the idle on all four carbs at once without syncing them? Please be detailed.
Thanks a heap!
Randy

I'm no Honda tech, but seeing as how no tech has responded to your question, here's my thought: If all your carbs are synched OK, but the idle speed is high, maybe you should check/adjust your throttle cable setting in neutral so it would 'pull' less on the throttle cam that controls all four carb throttles. Seems logical that if 'pulling' more on the throttle cable makes RPM go up that 'pulling' less can make RPM go down. JMHO. Good luck.

I simply adjusted the single idle screw located below the lower carb. I did this after running the engine out on the lake for a few hours, nice and warm - my 2000 bf90 idles at 500 rpm, with regular plugs. i may look for a different plug that will run hotter to avoid gunking them up.

thanks. dont know why I never saw the idle screw before but I have since posting this. The reason for the high idle was that the set nuts had come loose.
