the cages that hold the balls in the ends of the primer bulb are broken and they are loose in the bulb. could this be causing us to loose the power at high speeds, after about 15 minutes? also, it is a vacuum operated engine so do we even need a primer bulb on the fuel line. its a 40 hp mariner. thanks

Yup, it will cause a problem and yes you do need a primer bulb. It would help to have added this to your orginal post too. That just helps advoid comfusion with the same topic with more than one post.

Get yourself a new primer bulb. It's probably one of the check balls that's restricting your fuel flow plus those check valves are needed for proper operation of your fuel system.

Good luck
