I just replaced my fuel line, ( non Genuine) for my classic Merc 50.
I squeeze it , but it just seems to keep sqirting fuel. It doesn't get hard. Ben awhile since I've eben boating, but thought they firm up real good, and stay that way till you run the engine?

Yep, it should. Either you have a bad bulb or there's something wrong with the carb(s). If it was the carbs it would probably be obvious where fuel is leaking out...so I would assume there's a problem with the bulb.

Thanks ZmOz, I reused the old Tank end connection ( to a pacemaker tank) on the new bulb and hose assembly, may be this is where I am sucking in air as well?
The Fuel filter on the out board only fills 1/2 way when I prime, I see the fuel squirt in, but then it's empty again. No fuel is leaking from the Carbs.
I only bought this motor recently and when I get it running it's ok. But I think it's not getting fuel on start up as the fuel pressure is not mantained.
I check the tank end for an air leak.

Rovernaut...I replaced my fuel line and bulb early this summer. When I went tried to prime it, it would not firm up. I noticed I had installed the bulb in the wrong flow direction. Their should be an arrow on the bulb indication the direction of fuel flow.

Could just be a defective bulb too. They are supposed to have little check valves inside to prevent the backflow of fuel once you have primed the line.

Use original mercury bulb, not wal-mart. The mercury gets firm, the cheapo not.

The arrow is in the correct position of flow, so it may be sucking air on the tank connection fitting

Try unhooking it from the motor, and pumping some gas through the line. For some reason the new bulb on my outboard won't firm up about every second time I use it...and if I pump some gas through it, it works fine.
