Primer bulb issue

hi all, went out fishing last night and when I was going slow I had no issues. As soon as I would go up in speed the primer bulb would tighten up( as if someone was squeezing it) and the boat would stall. As soon as I would unscrew the fuel water separator it would go back to normal. I’m using a new 6 gallon tank this year. Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks

What kind of new tank?

Try cracking the tank filler cap and listen for a hiss. Does the cap have a vent screw?

It’s a 6 gallon plastic tank. It didn’t have the vent screw like my old tank. Maybe I’ll try loosen the cap to see if that fixes it. Then try my old tank to see if that fixes it then I’ll know it’s the new tank without the vent. Thanks
