Pretty design. Suits the boat. When it starts raining, how long does it take to erect?

Hope that anchor's tied down, or it will soon make a mess of your shiny fibreglass.

Nice! My wife wants something like that on our boat. I have canvas around the helm but she wants the full camper canvas like that. At least she did until she found out how much it would cost. :D

here is the canopy that came with the boat and a rough drawing i made up for the new one.. i tried not to spoil the boats lines.. lost a little stand-up head room at the front but i recon it was worth it..

i made the arch out of hard wood and fitted that myself.. couldnt manage the canopy thow.. the original quote was for about 800 pounds but the guy just never turned up so i tried somewhere else.. it cost me together with a new cushion for the engine cover 1175 pounds.. a thousand plus UK tax.. not cheap but i am happy with the end result..

the back piece folds back and lays on the transom.. its on a sliding rail so it pushes back well clear of the rear seats if u want it to.. it dont go up instantly when its all down.. praps five minutes to do it all.. but if the weather dont look good u can just remove the sides and roll up the front and back windows..

its kinda surprizing how much room there seems in the boat when its all up.. i think its all the windows that give the impression of space..

the boats stays in the water all year round so it has to keep the weather out.. i need another cheapo cover now to go over that one to keep it pretty during the winter.. he he

trog

Yikes!!!
it cost me together with a new cushion for the engine cover 1175 pounds.. a thousand plus UK tax.
That's 17.5% sales tax Trog!. Sounds like you guys need to have a 'London' Tea Party. That's confiscatory. I'll bet you have an income tax too. No wonder we split the sheets back in '76.

Other than that Trog, great design work and execution. It looks real professional. It's just too bad you nearly had to by one for the government too. :p

Re: pretty new canopy..

That's called VAT Boomyal!
VALUE ADDED TAX. More like value stolen tax.

If you're in business in Europe, you can claim VAT back. It's the end user who can't reclaim it. That's why lots of individuals in Europe set themselves up as one-man businesses - they can claim where Joe Citizen can't.

And yes, there's also income tax, local taxes on services, property tax, death tax - the list is endless!

Bit off-thread, but it's nice to have a good grouse.

And the weather? You can tell it's summer in Britain when the rain gets warmer.

yep we get "TAXED".. he he..

heres an attempt at a cheapo cover.. about 30 quid including all the fittings..

we only payed 400 quid for the boat so home-made it had to be.. three gallons of industrial machine enamel paint.. new window rubbers.. a few fittings.. some car body filler.. lots of time and it looks like a new boat..

all it needs now is nice a 90hp motor on the back to replace the ancient chrysler and life would be perfect..

total cost for this boat (my youngest sons) wieghs in at about a grand.. cheaper than my bloody canopy.. he he

Looks like a solid ol' sedan Trog. Could probably make a couple of runs to Dunkirk if it had to. ;)

It must be tough paint'n between the raindrops. :D

he he he.. it probably could make the trip..

its called a "Norman".. kinda does have an english look about it.. all solid glass and plywood last forever kinda thing no foam anywhere in sight.. made about 1975 i recon..

most of them are used as river cruisers.. with a decent engine on the back it would make a nice coastal fishing/camping boat..

for a whole new viewpoint on boating.. check the link out.. he he

http://www.normanboats.co.uk

trog100

Re: pretty new canopy..

Seems that Norman is pretty hot property in the UK. Can't believe these big tanks are powered by 7.5 to 15 hp. I think some of them have been around since Dunkirk. Seems I've seen pictures of boats of that style in old 'evacuation' pictures.

They do have pleasing, if very English, lines.

What are all those horseshoe shaped bumpers, on the front of all your boat, about?

Re: pretty new canopy..

Guess they're bow fenders Boomyal. Right, Trog?

Seems river boats run the risk of hitting things head-on.

Could do with some of those on the cars here - Maltese driving is another world!

Re: pretty new canopy..

i think the fenders on my boat are more about locks than anything else.. huge great concrete things that dont mix very well with plastic boats.. they were built years ago for working steel barges..

u have to moor up.. climb ladders.. work the locks and the boat gets churned about while they are filling or emptying.. its all too easy to leave half your boat behind everytime u go thru one..

i can start a new thread with some english boating pics if anyone is interested.. it does seem a whole different world..
