I would give the year, make and model , but in this case it does'nt apply since the engine was changed before I got to the boat . The 454 has what I was told was an old style prestolite module type distributor . The engine will not run , I've checked the voltage at the pos. side of the coil and only had a little over 10 volts . I jumped twelve volts staight to the coil and still had no spark at the coil or at the wires . When I took the coil wire off to check for a spark the only time it would spark was right when I hooked the 12 volt jumper wire to it . This all started with a thrown belt and a bad alt . I changed the alt but have not been able to get the engine to crank to check the alt . After installing the new alt I did find the hot lead from the alt layingin the bilge and burnt in half. One of the bat. isolator sides was laying in the bilge open to the world also . I changed the coil and the ignition module but still can't get any spark . This has me stumped , any ideas ? Also ,any opinions on this type of ignition setup.Would it be better to change the whole system to another setup

Re: Prestolite ignition

Check your ground connection from the battery..Needs to be tight and clean. Remove and clean and re-install.
