I installed the new water pump and the water pressure gauge. I hooked up the water line to the adapter just behind my throttle linkage (allen head on the very bottom just above the cowling) I got nothing. I even unhooked the hose and still got nothing out of that port. Maybe a few bubble's but nothing else. Not even enough water to fill up the hose. I have ran this motor for close to an hour and I ran it pretty hard and it did not over heat so I dont think there is a problem there. Do I have the right location to install the water line?

Hello sivart, Did you put the fitting into the spot that is so far foward on the plate that it was almost impossible to get in there without removing the lower cowling,? If so, i did the same thing initially and got the same results, 0psi at all rpms, I then put a "t" in the hose that runs from the 90 degree elbow that is about 6 inches further back on the adapter plate and now it works fine. Someone on here can correct me if i'm wrong for doing this, because i am not positive this is the correct place, but it seems to work. Good luck,
Steve

Yes that is the spot and exactly there is nothing there. I do know the fitting you are talking about that is 6 inches back. I was actually going to use that line and do the same thing you did but was wanting to make sure.
What kind of pressure are you getting?
Thanks for your reply.

honestly i will have to look at it and get back to you. I know where the needle sits, but i can't remember what the actual reading is. Sorry about that, Steve

By the way, where do you do most of your boating at (river/lake) I run on the mississippi river most of the time and it seems like i am replacing a thermostat about once a year because the silt and crud gums them up and they get stuck open. I could probably just clean them up and put them back in, but they only cost about $20, so i usually just carry a spare with me. Might be a good idea if you do some of the same types of boating. I have to be about the only person in the world that carries a spare thermostat with me, but it has helped me out a few times now. Steve

I do all of mine in the lake. I am new to being a boat owner so I dont know if I could tell if I had a thermostat going bad.
Thanks for the advise.

Re: Pressure problems, 92' 200 Evinrude

I'm sure you won't have those issues if you are on a lake. Basically the motor just idles rough, smokes a bit more, fouls plugs, and when you touch the cylinder heads, one is hot and one barely feels warm. The thermostats are at the top of each cylinder head with four bolts holding each one in and a hose coming out of the center. You can always check to see if it is the thermostats by just switching them from one cylinder head to the other and then seeing if your problem also switches. Just a FYI if it ever happens. I'll check the pressure later tonight or tomorrow and get back to you. Steve

Well mine does idle rough. Matter of fact it does not clean up till I am in the gas about half way through plane (which isnt very long)I figured that it was because the boat set for about 6 to 8 months before I got it. It runs fine after its been "ran" for a bit. It runs a little better everytime I use it.
It also smokes quite a bit but the oiler has been removed and I mix my own gas.

The forward allen head on mine provides no water pressure at any rpm. I dont know to be worried or not.

Re: Pressure problems, 92' 200 Evinrude

Sorry sivart, i didn't get a chance to look at it last night. I had a birthday party to go to and my "better half" just gave me a dirty look when i said i wanted to get something done with the boat before i left. :) One thing that i did have to do to my motor that was highly recommended was to change the drain plugs on the carb bowls to the new style. Here is the explanation that i was given: The high speed jets sit behind those drain plugs and screws into place clockwise. If they start backing out, it creates a lean condition and could detonate a piston. The new drain plugs have a little nipple on the end of them that holds the jet in place should it start to back out. I was told that this was a problem in the 200/225 models up to 1997. The new style began in 1998. The part number for the drain plugs was #344267, and the o-ring was #305739. I went and got them from my bomb dealer for about $30. Really easy to change too. Just had to take off the airbox, take out the old plugs (catch the fuel that drains out,) snug up the jet with a small screw driver, then put the new o-ring over the new plugs and screw them in snug, but not so tight that it srips out the plastic threads on the carb bowl. I don't know if this is a "necessary fix" or not, but i figured i would rather spend $30 than risk it being stubborn.
Steve
