OK....likely answered already....but I could not find a post on it and I would like to avoid getting a specialty product if possible.

I have some 5200 but found out I needed primer to make it work with aluminum.

so I bought some 4000uv for aluminum to aluminum bond.

Right now the aluminum has a bit of oily tinge to it.
How do I clean my bare aluminum so the silicone will hold?

PS: incase someone wants to correct me I am using it to to create a mount for a cutting board for my transducers.

Re: prep aluminum for silicone

I know there are lots of threads on cleaning aluminum but I do not want to do that.

I want to prepare it for using silicone on it or is just cleaning with any old thing going to prepare the surface?

thanks

What I have done. Tape off the area to protect the surrounding area.
Scuff it up a little with sandpaper.
While it down with Brake cleaner or acetone.

thanks....sounds like a great plan....I would not have thought the taping would be a big deal but will do it now for sure.
