I hope PFB checks this out. I thought this little family get-together was up in NC, but after doing my own research, i found out Brosnan Forest is in SC, in the coastal plains... oh well, the trout fishing in NC is on next visit to other bro-inlaw.

So, i'll be in Rochester Cnty SC, and it appears close to the coast, which means i'll have to take my child to see the beach for her first time ;) - and that means that maybe i ought to do some surf fishing, since its available :D I can't find any info on what the numerous pond/lakes in Brosnan Forest look like, anyone got any tips?

I'm thinking that since its all unknown, maybe i should pack heavy and gofer SW - although the relatives are talking FW big cat contests in Brosnan F, heck, would you guys say faggetit and do the bigger/badder fish off the beach?

Do I have some time to do a little research like dragging out the map and taking a look? I am not sure about the area myself. If you see any inlets or such that head into the ocean you will increase your bets for a S/W fish this time of year. I personally have never had a lot of luck in summer fishing off the beach. Usually the catch is small sharks and bluefish with perhaps a whiting or croaker mixed in. You can always do what I do in such a situation I pak a heavy rod or two then a couple lighter ones. Usually I like to fish light weight tackle anyway so I have some rods that do double duty I carry almost anywhere I go.

Okay I thought something was up. Pregnall is in Dorchester County or at least that is where my map program puts it. You are further inland than me and it takes me 30 to 45 min to get to the beach. If you are intent on S/W try Breach Inlet between Sullivans Island and Isle of Palms. It is not for swimming but the rocks on the Sullivans side are good especially if you fish the down current side many fish hide there out of the current. For freshwater the Edisto river has some great red******(type of bream) and also has some good Flathead catfish in it but that depends on if there is any water left in it. I hesitate to mention this but the Rediversion Canal on the upper side of Lake Moultrie has some great catfishing especially at night it is also designed for bank anglers. If for some reason I happen to have the location wrong I put Pregnall between Summerville and St George let me know and I will start all over agian. When are you comming down? Perhaps I can meet you and let you know what I know of the area. I grew up in the Summerville area so you will be practially in my back yard so to speak. I am just north of I26 off 17-a Between Summerville and Moncks Corner and would not mind meeting up at the Wal-Mart or somewhere near the I

alright! gotta bite... ok let me read it. yep, i see i listed Rochester instead of Dorchester - duh

yep, right outside of Summerville SC, is supposedly where the Norfolk/Southern 8000 acre Brosnan Forest is located.

i plan on getting over there Sat. afternoon, but not sure what kind of plans are already in place for me, and when... i appreciate the offer to meet me somewhere. how far did you say it was to monck's corner? i could call you if your ph# is listed - since your info is on your homepage...

(edited 7/27, after returning)
PFB, i didn't want to put this back on top, since its in hindsight...
It turned out that this place was @ 13mi east of St George off hwy78. And the bro-n-law that brought the laptop also spent what little time he was online trying to catch up on big business trip planning, which caused him to leave the next day for missouri. But the railroad bro-n-law kept me busy the whole time, as that place had 12 pond/lakes. We had a great time, caught lm bass, channel cats, and various sunfishes.
I didn't catch your post (following this) as my friggin ISP has been on/off for the last month!
But thanx for the thought! I did notice the Edisto River when crossing it, since i took 78 back to Aiken. I was so busy, i didn't even take in the visit to Charleston, when the womenfolk went. ;)
