Here in the D C area, military families are common and generally not hard to spot. On a clear, lovely morning, an obvious family showed up at the boat ramp next to Washington National airport with a nice family oriented 23-25' Grady White cuddy cabin in ship shape. The guess is that they were a naval family based on the nautical terms and precise and practiced movements of each person. Father issueing commands and mom and kids all reacting flawlessly. The standard ramp observers were duely impressed. At the critical moment of launch everyone was in their place and dad gave a mighty shove. The boat rolled off the trailer pretty as a picture. Unfortunately, the boat continued its journey across the inlet just as beautifully as it came off the rollers. The military precision had failed to include anyone having hold of a line. To his credit, dad just waded in, swam to, and pulled himself up into the boat with minimal fuss. I imagine that there was a "briefing" on board after they cleared the ramp and that launch SOP was discussed at length.
