Any input on a swap would be helpful, this is a failed leg from a 1976 Starcraft. Number on the transom assembly is 55894.

Can a Alpha 1 bolt up to this?

Suggestions would be helpful

Now what about the interface of the leg to the bell housing? The mating face after you've removed the 6 bolts and freed up the shift "finger". Can you swap between these or does the bell have to stay with the drive?

Thanks again.

Ayuh,...... The Alpha 1 will bolt onto the MC-1 transom assembly,..... No problem,......

Shift linkages are the same,.......

The big switch was in '91 with the Gen.II drives, which will only bolt onto Gen.II transom assemblies,.....

The bell housing between MC1 and Alpha One (actually the change came at the introduction of 'R') is a different shape, but the drive bolt patterns are the same, you can bolt an Alpha One drive to an MC1 bell housing and vicky verka with no problems. Use the gasket for either drive... The shift cable and water passages also 'adapt' without any problems. As it's a new drive, you will have to go through the shift cable adjustment.

Here's a picture of both gaskets....

At what point did the yoke length change?

Yoke lengths were shorter on MC1 drives for inline engines only. After 1982 (introduction of 'R') all yokes for all engines were 9-1/2". (?)

So op might need to consider that (didn't realize it was only inline engines)?

Thanks to all for the information. This helped a lot to confirm my repair and replacement.
