Powerpack cross comparability?

I have a 1982 Johnson 115 (J115MLCNB) that has bad powerpacks. Have a 1987 Evinrude 110 (E110MLCUR) that I replaced due to low compression but the powerpacks are in working order. I thought I could swap out the powerpacks straight across BUT I noticed that one set of connectors for the packs are not the same. I can post pictures if needed. But it made me stop and question this idea. Wondering if anyone knows if this design change was more than just that and i could splice the correct connector onto the good packs in order to avoid the $150 price tag for a pair..........thoughts? I may very well be way off and there might be serious differences within the packs themselves.

marineengine.com has great prices and part numbers available. use the part numbers to hit e bay and amazon. last time I found power packs on amazon prime for 80 bucks including shipping for my 82 e150. No I don't believe the circuits are the same from the timing control to the power pack

Since you already have the parts, why not swap the entire ignition system from the 110 to the 115? Easy enough to do, I just installed a 1988 110 ignition system onto a 1986 110, and it took less than 1 hour. You will need to pull the flywheel to get to the stator and timer base and regulator / rectifier.

Good point. It would alleviate any issues the ignition system might have since this motor is an unknown. I wonder is there any way to know they will swap across without issue?

Okay then pretty much all those parts will swap over

Not sure if it makes a difference but I'd use the flywheel off of the 110 just to keep all of the ignition system together as a set.

sounds good. I will swap the flywheel assembly with it then.
