Is it possible to put a 175 or 200 powerhead on a 150 johnson v6 (1984) Or would it be better to bore out and rebuild?

rebuild it. The only one that may fit is a 185hp of the same yr as they were the same cubic in.
corm

Yes it will interchange as long as you are using any 149 cubic inch cross flow 200. Both are same bore and stroke. The port timing is different. It's possible, and easy, to port yours to 200 specs if you have the block apart.

Make sure you are getting everything out of your 150 now otherwise you may be disappointed in the results vs cost.

Good luck!

Another thought -- you didn't mention if you have a standard 150 or the XP/GT model. Some of the XP/GT models had port timing that was already very close to the 200.

Good luck!

The motor is a standard 150 crossflow, My compression is running in the mid 70's low 80's, Seems to run pretty good. At what point do you rebuild? Thanks for all your help!!! :)

75 to 80 lbs isn't bad especially if you have the thick head gaskets. At the risk of opening a can of worms, I would suggest using a can of OMC Engine Tuner thru it. I use it all the time with great results. However, follow the instructions to the letter and don't let it set in the motor longer than a couple of hours. Then run it long enough to get it ALL out. A new set of Champion QL77JC4 plugs will probably be needed.

Good luck!
