I was just wondering if this sounds right. My mother's friend told my mother that the power trim is broke. I don't know what motor she has and it's on a pontoon boat. The dealer told her it would be $3000 to fix. That just sounds outrageous to me, does that sound right?

Gee, you might tell us what motor you are talking about. $3000 would be a total replacement of the PTT unit, I would think.

Many dealers now have the ---" replace the entire unit " mentality.-----Reasons---#1 puts more customers through the shop.----#2 guarantees that it will work with no return hassle.---#3 do not need a highly trained mechanic.----#4 guarantees good profit.-----Need to know what motor.----Need to know what --" broke "---means.----Could be it needs a new motor.----Could be a bad switch.---Loose / broken wire.-----Perhaps oil needs to be topped up.----Dealer does not have time to shop / deal with used !!!
