Power Trim Tilt 70 HP Force- Emergency!

My son's boat and 70 hp force engine (about 1993 to 94 model) are in my driveway. The motor is trimmed all the way down, and the trim tilt doesn't work even with a new battery where I can move the boat without damaging the skeg. Is there a pressure relief screw on this unit that I can loosen to manually lift the engine to move the boat? Thanks!

THERE IS NO PRESSURE REFIEF VALVE ON THE 70HP.
I wish there was. Only way to raise it manually would be to remove the oil lines from the pump and lift it by hand, but then you have to figure out a way to keep it up. And have the added problem of oil leaking out and bleeding the air out.

You should have a 2 wire motor on that pump.
You can follow the 2 wires, (blue and green) up under the motor cowling, and disconnect them. Then you can apply power directly to these two wires with a set of jumper cables and a battery. Simply reverse the connections to go the other direction.

If for some odd reason you have a 3 wire motor, apply power to a colored wire and use the third wire as a negative.

As always, make sure you aren't working around any gas fumes.

If doing this doesn't make the motor spin and the engine lift, then the motor is going to need some work anyways, so you might as well remove the oil lines, and prop the motor up with a block of wood between the motor and the transom.

At least then you can move it out of the way.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks for the insight into how I might lift it. As it worked out, when I applied power directly to the two wires, blue and green, I had no response from the motor. I loosened one of the hydraulic fittings, place a bucket under the fitting and lifted the motor by hand. I must have a bad motor. Atleast I was able to move the boat out of the drive way! Thanks again!

I also posted in another thread...

I too have this same problem. When I put power to the two wires (blue and green) my motor trims and tilts. Where do I go from there??

Thanks,
Mic

mic, please be more specific as to what the unit does not do.
not goin up?
not going down?
clicking or not clicking under the engine cover when you push the button?

What brand, year, model, and hp motor do you have.

Could be faulty switch, or relay, bad wire, corrosion.

Give us some more detail and we will try to narrow it down for you.

Likely the wiring is bad/corroded or the solenoid(s) bit the dust.

If you have the 2 wire motor, follow the wiring back under the engine cover, there are 2 relays plugged into the wiring harness.
The are $12 at a Merc dealer.

To test a 2 wire motor, connect battery directly to the blue and green wire on the motor.

TO TEST A 3 WIRE MOTOR, CONNECT blue wire to pos, and black wire to negative.

Then disconnect the blue wire and connect the pos to the green wire.

If the motor works, it is probably the relays/solenoids.
