Power trim relay unit

I have a 1982 Johnson 115 hp and the power trim failed. The unit was rusted inside and some wire became broken. I have attempted to replace the entire unit (Fuse, barrier strip, and the relays) but am told that the unit is obsolete. The relays still work and I cold use them or replace them (they are available) but the wiring is a bit of a mystery. The motor model is J115TLCNB. What I am hoping for is a picture of the wiring and/or if someone has the unit . ... Or, is there another relay that would work? This unit is under the real housing of the boat. Any assistance is appreciated.

Those look standard 40 amp VF4 relays. About available everywhere.

About $2 each retail

If they are 70 amp relays, the center row of contacts are 3/8" wide. Those are about $4

New PTT motors are 2 wire, like yours. Older engines usually have 3 wire PTT motors.

Consequently, when you buy a replacement PTT motor for an older motor, many of them come with a new wiring harness to convert old engines with 3 wire PTT motors to 2 wire motors.

You may be able to get one of these replacement wiring harnesses for your current PTT motor. Check ARCO and Sierra, and see what they have. I would expect them to be universal or nearly universal.

Thanks for the information. I tried both and no luck to date.

2 wire motors and 3 wire motors are both easy to control with a pair of relays

Here are two trim wiring harnesses for Mercury OBs. I would expect you could find one for Johnnyrudes as well. I looked on the crowleymarine site, found the OEM harness for a Mercury motor which has a 2 wire PTT motor, and searched for it on amazon.
