Hello
Been having a series of issues with my newly purchased boat's power trim. Boat is a 89 Cierra 2655, repowered with 5.7 merc and alpha one and from what I can with some shoddy mechanical work
The power trim motor is wired with external solenoids and not really mounted properly...
When I first got the boat the power trim did not work at all. Noticed the 10a inline fuse was burnt. Replaced that.
Second problem: when trying to go down, both solenoids would get energized, so both the green and blue wire had power. engine would struggle against itself. Going up was dead.Pulled the solenoids and wires apart, found some melted wires and some shorting happening. Repaired those with e-tape. re did some wiring.
Third problem, now the motor works both ways, but slower than expected. It also gets extremely hot after 1-2 cycles. Almost can't touch the motor and the wires shields are melting again on both solenoids
Fourth problem, oil is quite milky. Have tried to suck out the reservoir and replace, but the oil that comes out of the rams is very milky.
I've determind there is no issues with the trim switch and wiring to the controls. whatever short is happening is at the motor / solenoids.
If I remove one solenoid and activate the other, the motor turns at 3x the speed, almost too fast !
At this point I almost want to replace the motor and solenoids, but would like to figure out what the root cause of the problem is !
Thanks
