Power trim Issue

I have a 1989 mercury 80hp. Last year the power trim worked perfect, no problems. This year when i go to start it up for the season, the motor started nicely but the power trim didn't work at all. It wouldn't go up or down. I did hear the "clicking" noise i've been reading about. So i went to the local boat marina and the man said it must be a soleniod issue. So i purchased one and now i am ready to try to fix this. Any tips on how to approach this? or any tips about power trim issues similar to mine?
