power trim gauge inop on my 1999 four winns

hello

the power trim gauge does not read correctly on the dash of the boat.it has power because it sweeps to the top of the gauge when the boat in running and goes to the bottom of the gauge when the boat is shut off.but it does not read on the gauge where the motor is positoined at all..
i have no idea where to start in fixing this
any ideas ??

First place to start would be to let us know what engine/sterrndrive type and model you have. Most likely it's a bad sending unit.

the boat is a 1999 four winns 180 horison

it has a 4.3 L volvo-gm engine

and it has a omc leg

Mike...it's most likely your trim sender, if you have the boat on a trailer you can try and adjust it but it sounds like it's shot. Here is a link showing an exploded view of your transom mount area, you want item # 86, looking at the back of the boat the sender is about halfway down the starboard side (right side). Boat has to be out to get at it.
