Power tilt/trim motor compatibility issue....

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new tilt/trim motor for my boat, right here at iboats, after mine (the obsolete 819479A 1) recently failed. I purchased part number 18-6777. It appears compatible in almost every way, and I've read literature directing me to this part to replace the existing/failed one - yet there seems to be a problem. The new part came with no instructions or paperwork, and three drive shafts of 3 lengths. However, when I try to put any of those driveshafts into the pump kit that remains on the boat, underneath where the pump resides, they don't seem to fit. I have the old drive shaft for old failed pump, and it fits just fine into the new pump- but is too long to be used, and again, doesn't appear to fit into the base unit.

I hope I've explained my problem well enough to make some sense, and I hope someone can suggest a solution my problem.

As always, thanks for your time, and your assisting a rookie....

using old driveshaft put new motor on top and rotate until seated. measure gap between manifold and reservoir.

add 1/8" to the gap you measured.
using a dremel, cut that amount of length odff you old driveshaft.
deburr and round edges with file. wash clean, blow off metal flakes.
there you go.

Another question - since my new pump came with zero paperwork or documentation, (disappointing), I'm not sure what fluid I should use in the motor. The handbook for the motor, and thus the previous pump, says I can use Auto transmission fluid - Dexron II. Can I assume I can use same in the new pump?

if you live way up north try hydraulic oil or AW32. if you live in moderate climate atf is good.

RRit,

You've been a great help, I really appreciate it. I got it all done, and the trim works like a charm. Thanks!
