power tilt stuck down

89 40 hp evinrude vro. The power tilt motor runs in both directions, but does not move. I am trying to get the motor in the up position. I have loosened the large screw (3/4 inch apx.) on the bottom left side of the pump. was still not able to move the motor. Is there another relief screw on the pump?

I would think that you have a trouble and want advice to repair it, Mike.<br /><br />Why, then, post it in the Non-repair forum?<br /><br />I will move this to Evinrude Troubles for you.

Mike ,<br /> Look for a flathead screw with a c-clip in front of it...usually on the side of the clamp bracket and thru a hole.Open several turns while someone else lifts up and it should come up.Loosening the large nuts on the tiltube will sometimes help frozen pivot assy.<br /> Tim

Tim, thanks for the info, I saw a slotted screw in the side of the pump, accessible through the mounting bracket. bent one screw driver and bent another trying to turn it. would the c-clip have anything to do with this?
