Power T&T Compatability: Johnson 1978 115hp on a 1987 110hp VRO

Will a 1978 115 power tilt & trim unit be compatible with a non t&t 1987 110 VRO? Looking at the parts diagram the basic body (Manifold) and reservoir are the same part number, though the motors are different and differences like perhaps 2 or 3 wire setups and solenoid VS non-solenoid.
I recently purchased a 1987 110 VRO J110MLCUR and have a opportunity to puschase a T&T unit from a 1978 115 Model 1158996.
If in fact the unit is compatible with my motor are there any other components (engine wise) that would need modification?

To simplify my inquiry the 1978 115 T&T unit I'm considering is a 3 wire. My 1987 110 is a 2 wire. Will the 3 wire assembly be compatible? Thank you for your expertise.

The 2 wire system flips the polarity to the motor using 2 relays. The 3 wire system has a ground and applies power to one or the other remaining lead to change direction - up through a relay, down just through the helm switch. You could make it work but you'd be better off finding a 2 wire setup
