The last 2 trips (in fresh water) have gone great. Drove 2 hours south this weekend (saltwater). As always with this 70hp yamaha, it is cold blooded and hard to get to start when cold. But she started and was left to idle (@ 800-1000)while I parked the truck. Left the boat launch and did a slow/no wake for @ 5 mins then put the throttle into lift off postion. Motor came to life, boat plained out and off we went. RPM was @ 4500 (3/4 throttle) and I noticed a drop of @ 500 rpm on the tach and slowing of the boat, @ a minute later big power drop, bow back in the air and just running really boggy. Killed engine, removed plugs, and checked. Plugs were nice and dry and really clean (only @ 3 hours old). Once plugs back together and good visual, tried again. Same thing as before except that, instead of a complete loss of power, now I get @ 500-800 rpm surges. And it will never clean out.

Anyone got any sugestions? I have one really POed wife. Last 2 trips with her and she got to do no fishing, bad deal for me. Hard to justify all the good play time when the boat won't run. She said she had plenty of "honey do's" she could have me do so I would'nt waste my time on the "DUMB BOAT"

Thanks
Mark

Howdy MDEGood.

Sounds to me like water in the fuel.

Do you have a water seperator/filter that hasn't been purged in a while?

Failing that, look for loose debris in carb bowl(s) and air leak in the fuel lines.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the quick response. Yamaha in all its wisdom has put what they a water seperator (clear plastic bowl/filter) just before the fuel pump. I did not see any water but will check again when I get home. Just had the carbs redone @ 10 hours ago and have 2 inline filters + the water sep / filter. But will drop the bowls again and check.

Thanks
Mark
:(
