Re: POWER STEERING

Why would you want two pumps for one ram. They would just be fighting each other. Yes you have two engines but only one steering system. One pump is enough.

Re: POWER STEERING

when docking in a rather windy north sea port with only one engine working it is quite a hassle if this engine has no power steering

Re: POWER STEERING

Then remove said power steering and install hydraulic steering in its place. I don't believe its possible to connect two pumps to one system.

Re: POWER STEERING

Two problems I can think of are that you would need a commor resevoir and the voulme of two pumps might not be able to flow through your power steering system causing a lot of backpressure and heat. Would it be possible to tie in a power pack like used in a lift gate system to operate the PS in an emergency when your primary engine is dead?

Re: POWER STEERING

hey joe, I guess one way you could achieve what you are trying to do is to put a pump on both engines and install an air conditioner clutch on the pumps. then you could energize which ever pump you wanted to just by the flip of a switch. just an idea.........good luck

Re: POWER STEERING

the way to run two pumps is to install a prioritity valve on the power steering system.it is a common mercruiser part which is in the quicksilver accessory catalog.

The priority valve kit is the way to go. <br />Or, just leave it alone.
