power steering seems to be locked up?

I have a 1983 searay 350 merc alpha1<br /><br />cant turn steering wheel?<br />boat has been siting, wife had baby girl!<br /><br />help!<br /><br />need to get out there!!!!<br />mediaman

mediaman,<br /><br />More than likely your steering cable is frozen up. <br /><br />It will need to be replaced.

Is it a I/O? This just happened to mine.. Now you can do what I did and give the lower unit a good kick to the left and a good kick to the right and mine went free. I then greased the steering bars that are located behind the engine.. Mine works fine now but I was told If the boat sits for more than 2 weeks or so the salt will freeze it up again.. Bottom line is it sounds like you need to take apart the steering mechanism behind the engine apart and clean and greese real good. I have not attempted this yet because a good kick worked for me.. I also was told by a mechanic this is a big job to take it apart. Kick at your own risk!<br /><br />BOAT- Break Out Another Thousand
