power steering help

hey, have yanmar w/ Bravo III. have hydraulic power steering assist, with a cable from the steering wheel. recently lost steering to the leg. the wheel turned freely but the leg moved very little to nothing at all. then all of a sudden I got the steering back for a while just to lose it again a few hours later. resevoir was full any ideas???????? thanks:confused:

I would guess at air in the hydralic system. But as you said the reservoir was full it seems unlilkely that it was air.
Is the boat old or new? if it's new then it might not have been purged correctly by the shop, if it's old did it do this before? or have you just bought it and maybe the PO changed the fluid and got air in the system?
I think you need to purge the system to remove any air as a first step.

how do you purge this type of system. ive only had the boat about 1 yr, and this was a new problem . engine w/ steering only have 500hrs. thanks
