Went out today for a ride, half way through the ride I checked the power steering fluid (empty) crap crap. brownish fluid in bilge area. any ideas. thanks

If you have an I/O in that boat, check the hoses from the PS pump to the steering box. They have metal ends that rust out and the hoses can also spring a leak.

Check your hoses. the quick and dirty, Max life makes power steering fluid with stop leak. I had a simaler problem and the Max life fixed it for now till i have time to turn some wrenches.

Get everything cleaned up. Then run the unit and have a bright light to inspect. Have someone turn the wheel both directions and see if you can see a leak from a hose or fitting. Also look where the pump is pressed into the resevior. And be careful with the engine running while inspecting. If you start with 10 fingers you'll want to end with 10 fingers.
