Power reduction mode?

I was dropping my family off at a beach and it was low outgoing tide very shallow. Lots of cocina shell and shell bottom. I sucked up some in the motor and it stopped up the pee tube. I noticed it and ran over to the ramp to load the boat, as I was going to ramp the engine went from 5200 down to 3500 rpm and acted like it had lost half its power. I went home and detached te pee tube and used my air blower to push out the shell of the line. Reattached and took boat back out and it was doing the same thing. Like it was running in protection mode or something. Any ideas?

Either have a dealer look at it, or buy a Factory service manual, throw the motor in diagnostic mode, and see what the ECU memories tell about error states. Could be a water flow issue or an overheat issue among other problems. You need a good diagnosis to be certain.

Like Paul said. This model engine has a self diagonostic computer built into it. With the service manual you can activate that feature and determine what is wrong.

Re: Power reduction mode?

I have at a dealer now. He has checked fuel pressure, air pressure, compression, spark. All checked out fine. The engine idles fine but will only turn 5000. Doesn't stumble or bogg just won't turn anymore rpm. It normally turns 57-5900 rpm with no problem. I only run it at 55-5600 when cruising. It acts like its under a big load and can't turn up when wot. Also, it will turn up to 6000 no problem when not in gear (no load). The mechanic tried running it on a separate fuel tank and it does the same thing.... Could this possibly be a high pressure fuel problem(he changed the high pressure fuel filter, said it wasn't bad). Could it be the quick connect fuel line connector gone bad or the fuel pump acting up on high rpms? We're both puzzled. Any help?

Re: Power reduction mode?

Do a compression or leak down test. Maybe it overheated and damaged a cylinder?

He said all the cylinder compression was perfect.. I wasn't there to verify but that's what he said...

The puter would throw a code for almost everything. Have the dealer call Tohatsu and ask for help. I suspect that they are not catching a code that is showing up.

Ok I will tell him to call the factory. He mentioned doing that on Monday when we talked. Thanks.
