There is a power plant lake that I fish out of quite often, and I was wondering if anyone else here fishes out of them. I usually bass fish out it, but last weekend, I , for some reason or other, decided to try the bluegill. I started cathing the like crazy, but threw them back. Some where well over a pound. I wanted to know, who here fishes out of these warm water lakes, and eats the fish that they catch out of them?

well I don't fish 'power plant lakes' but there are a few power plant discharges that I'll run through with the boat.

I wouldn't eat anything from a warm water discharge lake/pond tho.. just me.

I think the one here in southern WI is catch and release by law tho.. so its a 'push' on the subject for me.

NATE WE FISH THE " WARM " SIDE OF A POWER DAM IN VA IT IS ALSO THE PRIVATE SIDE OF THE LAKE SO IT GET'S FISHED A LOT LESS AND HAS TONS OF FISH WE HAVE HAD FISH FOR DINNER A FEW TIMES BUT WE DON'T KEEP AND EAT EVERYTHING WE CATCH. IT'S NEAT TO GO OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF FEBUARY AND CATCH FISH IN WATER THATS 65+ DEGREES. I WOULD CK WITH YOUR FISH AND GAME PEOPLE TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY WARNINGS OR INFO. WE HAVE HAD A SMALL TOURNAMENT AND FISH FRY AFTERWARDS FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YRS EVERY ONE HERE IS STILL ALIVE. sorry about the cap's my work makes me type that way

RE:Nuclear Fishing, I fish saltwater and one of my favorite spots is the outflow from Millstone Nuclear Plant in Waterford Ct. In October when the early morning air temp is 35-45 in the out flow it's tropical at least 70 the bait fish hold up in the warm water and we just kill large bluefish and stripers there. The same thing at Lake Ontario in upstate NY again we fished the outflow and picked large lakers and browns there......

Re: Power Plant lakes

This is no joke. I caught a fish in Sooner Res. (Oklahoma Gas and Electric cooling lake for a large coal fired power plant). Neither myself nor the VERY experienced dude with me could identify it. Looked kind of like a drum, but with tumor like growths on it. We called it the OG&E fish. Reminded me of the fish from the Simpsons. Should have mounted it as a conversation peice. I have eaten a lot of cats out of there. Nothing like fishing the discharge in the winter. If any one wants directions, let me know. It's not marked and required a 1/2 mile walk.

nate fished many of the nuclear discharges on the tenn. river system some of my favorite holes, caught huge bass in them in feb and march.wouldnt worry to much about eating the fish it would take tons of fish over a lifetime to do any damage thats what they say around here

Nate, I just got an email that says the lake you are talking about is now closed to fishing for the next 45 days due to pollution of some sort..
I think they said it would re-open on June 20th...

Barlow,

You can keep fish out of Lake Columbia, but like you, I wouldn't. I have seen pleanty of people keep cats out of there (boy they must be mushy) and I saw a kid keep a 20" striper out of there. There is an 18" size limit on bass, and you can only keep one or two a day, I forget now.
