have a 1978 inline 6 115. Im waiting on the manual, but while cleaning her up, Ive got a small blue rubber coated cylinder (size of my thumb), attatched to the power pack on the port side (but dosnt seem to be part of it), wires running into the power pack at the front of the engine.

the wires are cracked and badly corroded, and about to fail. anybody have any ideas on what this cylider might be?

thanks

Re: power pack?

ding ding ding...

yes, it was the mercury switch, which I gather is to keep engine from starting in the tilted position. my new SELOC manual dosnt touch on it (thanks a lot, SELOC), but can I just remove this to continue to work on the engine? I can replace it later, but I dont want it failing on me while Im trying to figure out the other problem with starting.
