Power pack repeat failure

I have a ns70a Nissan outboard. It has blown 3 power packs in the last few months. Pack 119-2400 cdi. The mechanic did not cut off the esg plug as the installation instructions stated. Also he installed a maintenence free battery. CDI says this battery can damage the pack. The PP is failing on one cylinder. It will last several weekends before blowing. Is this true? What else could cause this? Please help. I can't keep letting this mechanic just throw power packs in it.

Re: Power pack repeat failure

I had something like this happen on a 90hp johnson....1cyl.pp failure.....I took the coil from that cyl. and moved it too another cyl...and it blew that pp cyl. as well......I did a OHM test and turns out the coil was bad,,,,I bought 4 new coils and a powerpack over a year ago,,,no more problems....might be something too look into
