Power pack problems 😡

I have a ns70a Nissan outboard. It has blown 3 power packs in the last few months. Pack 119-2400 cdi. The mechanic did not cut off the esg plug as the installation instructions stated. Also he installed a maintenence free battery. CDI says this battery can damage the pack. The PP is failing on one cylinder. It will last several weekends before blowing. Is this true? What else could cause this? Please help. I can't keep letting this mechanic just throw power packs in it.

Bad packs or a bad ground. Get one through a Tohatsu dealer instead of wherever you are getting it now.

The packs are made through CDI. Nissan no longer makes them. Could this maintenence free battery cause this? And the engine ground to battery is severely corroded.

And you need to get it through a Tohatsu dealer as they guarantee it. No, a maintenence free battery would not cause a cd failure. Chances are that ground cable is what is causing the cd to fail.

Yep. order 3A3062400M C.D. IGNITION UNIT 45A2/50C/55B/60A/70A2 $262.52, and repair all wiring, especially grounds.

Sure...Anything can go bad. It's rare though. Nineteen times out of twenty it's a CD though.

After some trouble shooting, power pack firing on both cylinders. A screw on the bottom carb had come loose and shut that carb down, so the motor was running on 1 cylinder.

That's what I get for assuming the PP was the problem before doing any testing
