Hey all, I suspect a bad power pack on one of my Johnson 150 engines (model J150ELENC - 1992 - serial G 03095787)

I have spare parts from a 1993 Johnson 150 (model J150NXETR - Serial G 03185144). The part numbers for the power packs between years is different, but I am wondering if the 1993 power pack will work on the 1992 engine without doing any damage? thanks!

if you look up the aftermarket replacements for both motors, and they are common, then the answer is yes.

It does look like the aftermarket parts are the same, but still a little confusing.

The Sierra powerpack for 1992 replaces an OMC # 584985 which is the original equipment on a 1993 engine

The CDI powerpack replaces OMC # 584910 which was original equipment on neither a 1992 or a 1993.

What is the worst that could happen if I just tried out the 1993 powerpack I have on hand??

Hmmm. I should rephrase my last statement. Iboats lists the same CDI or Sierra parts as applicable for different years. However, if I go to the CDI website, or the Sierra website, they list different parts for the different years.

One would think CDI and Sierra know best. What does ebasicpower.com show? How about Maxrules.com (I think they list stuff as well)
