Re: Power Loss

Is the tank vent open?

Try pumping the primer bulb when it looses power, if that makes it run right, then rebuild the fuel pump.

Re: Power Loss

I never heard anybody use the terms "high side" and "low side" talkin bout a rectifier, but I guess he could be refering to the AC generated by the stator.

Rectifier goes bad, two things happen: 1> motor stops charging the battery and 2> the tachometer stops working (tach isn't harmed, it just isn't getting a signal). It's also possible that a blown rectifier can interfere with the ignition. One thing you can do is run it with the the yellow rectifier wires disconnected. If the problem persists, you'll have ruled out that theory.

Wouldn't of been the first thing I thought of, but then I'm not getting paid for that. :)

First, I'd do the compression and spark tests described here:
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=313963 and here: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=188767

Let us know what you get.

Check the fuel tank for water/debris. Was ethanol-blended gas introduced into your area recently? That stuff will clean the gunk out of a gas tank and deliver it to the engine.

Re: Power Loss

I don't think its the rectifier, you can run them with one, it'll probably toast the stator but it'll run.

Sounds like its starving for fuel, try spraying some fuel from a spritz into the carbs when it bogs....or bumping the choke.(easier).

If so, I'd say rebuild carbs and test again, then look towrds fuel pump if it still bogs.
