We just purchased a 2002 Commodore 2765 it doesn't have a generator but we would like to be able to run some of the features when we are out boating ex. micro and tv. Can we install an inverter to run the appliances? What size would we need to get? Can we get a generator that can be installed in the engine compartment that won't cost an arm and a leg? What size do we need? Our boat does have an air conditioner.

Re: Power Inverter

Cheap inverters (modified sine wave) often do not run a microwave well, so you'd be better off with a true sine wave inverter. That said, assuming you can find one that'll power your air conditioner, it'll kill the house batteries in no time.

I don't think a gen set is a typical do it yourself project, so I'd inquire at a dealer or independent marine shop about having one put in. I imagine it's a factory option on that boat so it's probably feasible.
