Looking at a mid 70's (I think) Chieftain 18' O/B. I have not seen the boat in person yet, attached are some pics from the seller. Seems like a nicely kept unit, obviously been repainted once already. The motors are nothing special but the boat is currently in the local marine shop for complete motor servicing. Asking price is $4,500.

Any comments on what to look for when I check it?

thanks!
John

A nice hull in good shape with a clean interior and a running Johnson with a kicker sitting on what looks like a real nice trailer. As long as the transom and floors are solid I would say that doesn't look like a bad deal. I am sure the other will chime in shortly but $4500 might be a little optimistic but not too far off. Nice looking combo right there.

Welcome aboard! What part of the country do you hail from? Location makes a big difference in the value... here in MI I doubt that would go for more then $3000, but is it what you are looking for? That makes all the difference... I paid almost double the "value" on my barrel back because I HAD to have it!

Yah, I gotta agree with bunker there, she is a good looking ride and if you can put it in the water today and go fishing, the asking price might be pretty close. Though, I'd be thinking something at the less than $4K mark.

Good Luck!:)

i think you're in the ballpark. 70hp motor is a little small for the boat, which might be used as a negotiating point. don't think i would go 4000 for that rig but 35-3800 would be reasonable. pretty boat, and i like the fiberglass (did i say that???!!) roof
