While we all get to see the national lures in the Bass Pro and Cabela's catalogs, there is a world of regional lures out there. Many times it is just a regional builder, that made a copy of the big name lure. That is not too exciting. What is, are the unique lures that are being done by small shops, which range from just a unique color scheme, to a complete unique lure. Share the unique lures in your area with the rest of us.

I'll start, with a locally designed and made lure, called the Bass Ackwards. It is a shallow stick bait, with a backwards minnow profile. Plastic molded and hand painted. A one piece metal insert connects the two hooks with the tie ring. Inventer/builder made a batch of these, and sold to local stores. Tried to get a number of "big name" lure companies interested, but didn't pan out.

This one is responsible for my biggest day ever - with two other guys we boated well over 200 big sand bass in about 4 and a half hours. Tried a few other lures just for the heck of it - caught a few on 'em, but this was the only one that produced a fish every cast.

It's like a much-improved Little George - a molded lead head with an inline tail spinner - but the spinner spins with the slightest movement. And an extra set of trebles on the back - lot of fish caught on that tail hook. Mostly just chunk and crank but also works in a vertical jigging presentation.

Guy started making these sent one out to anybody on my local fishing board who asked - seems to have a pretty good business going now. Check out his website - Humdinger Lures

jtexas: looks like a panther martin inline spinner, instead of a colorado blade. Wonder how they are with smallies or walleyes? maybe LD knows? Sand bass??? local name for white bass? or unique species?

roscoe: you just got to love muskie lures, even if you don't fish for them. Do they have a grey or red squirel version? :D

sandies = white bass. I've caught stripers with it & people are catching crappie & bass on 'em.

Re: Post Your Regional Lures

While I didn't try these because they were "regional", they are made by a guy here in Indiana.

The Fish-N-Spin 1/32 oz tube style lure has caught me more bluegill & crappie then any other artificial lure.
Sure it's like a Beetlespin but this uses a willow blade. Does it make a difference? Beats me. :D

A black & chartreuse tube is the only color you need.
Replacement tubes are available through Mr. Spin, but you can find them anywhere. I highly recommend buying extras as the fish literally tear these things up.

Tipped w/ a waxie, crappie nibble, or nothing they will produce fish.

They are easy to fish also. Cast, let it sink to desired depth & slowly, slowly reel in, rod tip high, keeping an eye on the line. While you can feel most hits a lot of the time you can see it in the line movement.

(edit: I was reading his site. It's true you do catch a wide variety of fish. I've landed a bunch of bass & even a few catfish, which I've never caught on an artificial lure)

Proof :D

click for fullsize. (boy I'm glad I'm not that fat anymore. :p )
